OMG [personal, home] — DrJoolz @ 2:16 pm

It’s nearly Christmas!!

We are so glad that we made the last minute decision not to go to NYC over Christmas (as previously planned) since apparently we would have spent days in the airport this week, rather than going where we wanted to.

Went to Liverpool yesterday to shop with  Sam the Man and got a few last minute bits and bobs including the book of the website ‘PostSecret’. Howemad is that? To buy a book of a website. Anyway I did.

But I have to go now … as TT is standing by the door with his coat on ready to drive to the outlaws …. oh well.

Happy Christmas and see you in a few days.

  1. *Traveller’s whinge alert* You were right to avoid Heathrow! We had a good trip to Vienna immediately before Christmas (except that I came back expanded from all the cakes, which were superb), and didn’t have nearly as bad an experience as many. However, when we flew out (well before fog problems) it was already chaotic, basically because BA didn’t have enough people checking you in and there were huge numbers of travellers. Everyone had to check in online or self check in BUT if you had luggage you then had to go into the tents outside and wait until an hour before your plane was due, at which point you were allowed to join what was laughably called the “fast bag drop” queue, which took another 30 mins. The flight back was delayed by 3 hours because of the fog, but that didn’t seem so bad. I don’t know whether this can be tied into digital literacy - it certainly shows that using technology doesn’t necessarily make things more efficient, since once EVERYONE is self-checking-in, then the bottleneck just moves from full check in to the bag drop. I HAVE seen machines that print out your luggage tags too, and that speeds it up a bit more.

  2. Sheila that sounds so bad … poor poor you.
At the moment quick check in is still quick but I agree it won’t be for much longer …
